Dawid Godziek: From Backyard Beginnings to Slopestyle MTB World

Champion

Dawid Godziek is not only one of the world’s top freestyle MTB riders but also a true icon of extreme sports. A perfectionist, innovator, and master of his craft. In 2024, he became the world champion in slopestyle and accomplished something that previously seemed impossible – he became the first person ever to complete a slopestyle run on a moving train! But before he started rewriting the history of the discipline, his path to success was paved with years of hard work, countless crashes, and spectacular victories. Let’s rewind to the beginning…

First jumps and early bike adventures – Dawid Godziek’s start in Suszec

Every great story has humble beginnings, and this one starts in a small backyard in Suszec, Poland. Dawid was 12 when he and his brother Szymon built their first jumps just outside their house. They weren’t big, but they were enough to spark a passion for biking. From backyard tricks, Dawid quickly progressed to professional tracks and from local contests to the international stage.

MTB or BMX? A key decision that changed everything

The turning point came in the winter of 2010, when Dawid, looking for a way to train indoors, switched from MTB to BMX. He thought it would be a temporary change – but fate had other plans. The smaller wheels turned out to be a perfect match for his riding style, and his progress was so fast that just a year later, he competed at the BMX Masters in Cologne, finishing fourth. Soon after, he won a bronze medal at Rebel Jam in Spain.

Dawid Godziek and the breakthrough year 2013: Double Polish championship

and international success

In 2013, Dawid claimed double Polish Champion titles in the Skatepark and Dirt categories, and then began making waves internationally. A major breakthrough came with his appearance at Red Bull Dreamline in the U.S. – finishing fifth at such a prestigious event opened doors to sponsor partnerships and drew attention from global media. From that moment, his career took off at full speed.

Innovative tricks and global triumphs – Dawid Godziek revolutionizes BMX and

MTB

The years 2014–2016 were packed with success – wins at Vans Kill The Line, NASS in the UK, Dirt on Fire in Romania, and many other top-tier events. It was also during this time that Dawid began experimenting with new tricks. In 2016, he landed the “Twister,” a move that still wows judges and audiences to this day.

Dawid Godziek: Comeback from injury and X-Games gold

In 2017, Dawid started competing in the Nitro World Games and Toyota BMX Triple Challenge. He was on a roll, but a sudden knee injury halted his momentum and forced a break. Like any true champion, however, he came back stronger. In 2018, he won three medals in the Toyota Triple Challenge and then took gold at the X-Games in Sydney.

Slopestyle MTB and the historic 2019 season – Dawid Godziek at the top

2019 brought another twist. Dawid returned to his MTB roots and entered slopestyle competitions. He won Dirt-Battle Vienna and Swatch Rocket Air, and then, with a wildcard, qualified for the Crankworx World Tour, placing third at Red Bull Joyride. He later returned to BMX and landed on the podium at X-Games Minneapolis – becoming the first athlete in history to win medals in both disciplines in the same season.

Dawid Godziek vs. Emil Johansson – a legendary rivalry in the Crankworx

World Tour

Even during the pandemic in 2020, Dawid didn’t slow down. In 2021, he took silver in Best Trick at Red Bull Copenride and gold at Poland’s first-ever Red Bull Roof Ride in Katowice. In 2022, he continued pushing for top spots at the most prestigious events, capped off with a gold medal at the X-Games in California. In 2023, he battled Emil Johansson for dominance in global slopestyle, winning medals at every event he entered.

2024: The Year of Dawid Godziek

After years of grinding, setbacks, and triumphs, Dawid had a season that left no doubt – he’s number one. Gold medals in Cairns, Innsbruck, and Canada earned him the legendary Crankworx Triple Crown – a trophy claimed by only three riders in history.

But that’s not all. In September 2024, Dawid raised the bar even higher by pulling off a project that seemed unreal – becoming the first person ever to complete a slopestyle run on the moving cars of a train.

What’s next? Dawid Godziek is pushing the limits of extreme sports

That’s a question even Dawid might not know the answer to. One thing is certain – he hasn’t said his last word. For him, nothing is impossible, and the laws of gravity seem to play by different rules. Wherever his journey leads next, one thing’s for sure – the world of extreme sports will be hearing his name for years to come.
